For many years I was fortunate to fish with Phil’s dad Smokey, the gentleman of gentleman and one of the best fly caster’s I have ever fished with. Phil started fishing with his own group of friends on the Chairman II a number of years ago. This year Phil gave us a real treat, he brought five friends who all went to the University of Vermont together. Our guests were from Vermont, Massachusetts, New York, Minnesota, Colorado, and Illinois.
2014 has been a strange year weather wise. Ice left the lake the second latest date in Rainy Lake history. Vey warm weather right after ice out, then some significant rains in late May and June. Water is high at the moment, but once up lake it does not affect houseboating or fishing. The bass had bedded at different times in different areas of the lake. They are hitting surface poppers just fine!
A good breakfast on the Chairman II before fishing keeps you casting all day. Chef Bernie Lessard keeps all of the guests well fed!
