The FBI from Le Mars, Iowa came back to Rainy Lake Houseboats for their 9th consecutive year. Tom Rohde, his dad Leonard, brother Tim and Nick De Rosa arrived on Saturday May 24th. Randy Reardon, Dave Erdman, Mark Nieman and Gail Sitzmon arrived on Sunday and quickly loaded up and headed to Saginaw Bay. Bob Peutz, Randy Kroese, Jeff Peterson and Jason Gatts arrived on Monday. Fishing was crazy again this year, 1/8 oz jigs tipped with minnows pitched into points in 6-8 feet of water was nuts. Forty to fifty walleyes per boat per morning. Tipping the same jigs with 3″ Gulp minnows nailed the smallmouth bass stacked on the points and walls. the headliner of the trip was the slip bobber fishing off the back of the houseboat in the evening. Sometimes it seemed the bobbers were broke as they just kept going down! Another technique that is working well is to tie a floating jig head on, put a split shot about 18-24 inches above the jig head. Cast it out, tighten the line and wait to see the tip quiver.
On Thursday afternoon the F.B.I. (Fat Boys of Iowa) headed back to Rainy Lake Houseboats to spend their last night. We gathered for dinner at Thunderbird Lodge had dinner and listened to stories about the trip with many laughs. They are great friends, and we will see them this fall in Le Mars!
