Our final sport show of the year begins on Wednesday. Tom and his son Andy will be there representing Rainy Lake Houseboats. We have a twenty-foot-wide booth that will make it easy to stop in and say hello or talk about this year’s houseboat trip.
It has been an old fashioned winter this year; the coldest since the early seventies. Spring and summer always came back then and it will now. It is surprising how people forget what used to be normal weather in northern Minnesota. Our ice will go out during the first ten days of May. Fishing will be very good. We have a large snow pack that will provide plenty of current concentrating the walleyes in the rivers and current areas. Unlike Mille Lacs Lake; Rainy Lake has a huge population of walleyes that bite all year long. Rainy Lake’s catch rate is five times higher than the state’s average catch rate.
There are many things to learn about your houseboat vacation, the easiest way is to come and talk to Tom and Andy. When do the loons hatch? Generally between July first and the 10th. It is fun to watch the loons as they fed the babies and as they grow teach them how to gather their meals.
When is the water warm enough to swim? When do the blueberries ripen? Is it legal to eat them in Voyageurs National Park Ha Ha!
Come on down and take the time to visit Tom and Andy. This scene could be the end to your day this summer! After a winter like this one you deserve it.
